"ACHING HEART"
© 1996 Observer-Dispatch

"The worse part about this job is that we can feel the pain and grief of others.  We are often met by those who think we are cold and callous because we are able put a camera in the face of a grieving person.  What they don’t know is that even if there were no judgmental people standing around making judgments of us and our jobs, we would still be uncomfortable because we will always be making judgments of ourselves.  This is because even though we know the good that comes out of a photo like that, deep down in that spot in the middle of our soul, where our life emotions spew from, we feel insecure and question ourselves and our own motivations when in that situation, and wonder if it  is selfishness why we do this."
